  • Specialised technical and engineering talent

  • High earners hired by Spanish or multinational firms

For senior and specialised talent

The Highly Qualified Professional (HQP) permit, modernised by the Startups Law, is the fastest employment route into Spain. It is designed for executives, specialists, and graduates in well-paid roles, and processes far quicker than the standard work permit.

Key requirements

  • Job offer in a highly qualified role
  • A salary above the relevant threshold for the position
  • University degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Clean criminal record and health insurance

How the process works

  1. 01

    Eligibility & salary check

We confirm the role and salary meet the highly-qualified thresholds under the Startups Law.

  2. 02

    Application to the UGE

File with the Large Companies and Strategic Sectors Unit (UGE-CE), which decides quickly.

  3. 03

    Visa or in-country approval

Collect the visa abroad, or — if already legally in Spain — receive the residence authorisation directly.

  4. 04

    TIE & family cards

Register and obtain residence cards for you and your family.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the standard work permit?

It is processed by a specialised unit (UGE) under the Startups Law, is much faster (~20 days), covers the whole country, and lets your family apply at the same time.

Can I apply from inside Spain?

Yes. If you are legally in Spain (for example on a student or tourist status that allows it), you can apply without returning home in many cases.
